John Honeyman & Keppie's drawings submitted to the Glasgow Dean of Guild Court show a recessed platform in the ballroom five steps above the existing floor. The platform projected into an outdoor space. Externally it had a pitched roof with guttering, internally the ceiling of the recess was curved. The floor of the platform and the lintel of the recess were constructed using rolled iron beams. The Grand Hotel was demolished in the late 1960s during the construction of the M8 motorway.

Authorship: This is one of over 270 jobs carried out in the office of John Honeyman & Keppie (Honeyman, Keppie & Mackintosh from 1901) during Mackintosh's time there. Mackintosh undoubtedly worked on many of these, but there is no specific evidence for his involvement in this case.
