James L. Arnot

Plumber

James L. Arnot set up in business in 1878 with John Henderson as Henderson & Arnot, but by 1888 Arnot was sole proprietor. 1 The business was concerned with 'baths, water closets, wash basins, pumps, water and gas pipes and gasfittings', and worked on major projects including the City Public Baths and Washing Houses at Main Street, Gorbals, and 'the plumbing and gasfitting work for a very large number of School Board Schools in the city and suburbs.' 2 By 1904–5, Arnot was advertising his services as an 'electrical & ventilating engineer' as well as a plumber and gasfitter. 3

James L. Arnot worked on the following Honeyman, Keppie & Mackintosh project: Scotland Street Public School.
