John Honeyman & Keppie's drawings submitted to the Glasgow Dean of Guild Court show designs for two metal-framed buildings, covered with sarking and corrugated iron, for Thomas Bremner Fotheringham, a timber merchant and door, window and moulding manufacturer. The first phase of work was to comprise a small two-storey building, apparently of stone, containing offices within the metal-framed structure. It corresponded to a change in the client's business address. The second phase of work would expand the premises considerably. Although drawings for both phases of work were approved by the Dean of Guild Court, neither was recorded in the practice job books, nor signed off in the Dean of Guild Register of Plans, suggesting that none of the work was carried out. 1 Fotheringham paid John Honeyman & Keppie small sums in 1898 and 1900 which probably correspond to the design work carried out. 2
Authorship: This is one of over 270 jobs carried out in the office of John Honeyman & Keppie (Honeyman, Keppie & Mackintosh from 1901) during Mackintosh's time there. Mackintosh undoubtedly worked on many of these, but there is no specific evidence for his involvement in this case.
