M168 Addition to J. & T. Hodge's premises

Address: St Ninian Street, Glasgow
Date: 1899
Client: J. & T. Hodge
Authorship: Authorship category 4 (Office) (Office)

John Honeyman & Keppie's drawings show a utilitarian addition, one floor plus attic, to the four-storey Gorbals building belonging to J. & T. Hodge, a tobacco, snuff and cigarette manufacturer. 1 It seems probable that the building was a warehouse. The addition was constructed using a steel skeleton giving uninterrupted floor areas. The pitched roof was partly glazed.

Authorship: This is one of over 270 jobs carried out in the office of John Honeyman & Keppie (Honeyman, Keppie & Mackintosh from 1901) during Mackintosh's time there. Mackintosh undoubtedly worked on many of these, but there is no specific evidence for his involvement in this case.

Cost from office job book: £ 775 0s 0d

Status: Demolished
