Finlay Bell


Finlay Bell (1820–5 September 1918) was a respected member of the Glasgow business community, featuring in the Bailie 'Men You Know' feature on 27 August 1913, at the age of 93. He was a butcher and provisions merchant with a shop on Great Western Road, and was twice deacon of the Fleshers' Guild. Orginally from Ayrshire, where he appears to have farmed, he had a long affiliation with the Glasgow Ayrshire Society of which he was a sometime president and director. He lived at Monktonmiln with his family from at least the time of the 1891 census until his death. He also kept a house in Glasgow close to his business. He was married twice and was father to a total of four daughters and three sons, two of whom worked with him. 1
