William Carson & Son
Painters
William Carson served his apprenticeship as a painter and decorator with an old Edinburgh firm, working on Darnaway Castle on the Moray Firth, before setting up his own business in Stirling in the early 1840s. 1 After his death in 1876, his son David R. Carson was sole proprietor, building a new red brick showroom 'in the English domestic style' in 1903. Carson & Son prided themselves on their large stock of 'paperhangings' and their workforce's 'high-class workmanship'. 2 They also carried out woodgraining, marbling and sign-writing. 3 After David's death, the premises at 52–6 Port Street, Stirling were sold to sitting tenants in 1930. 4
