Mrs Tucker Geils

Hester E. Geils (1811/12–1898) was born in India and married Joseph Tucker Geils (1808–1871), a Major in the Indian army. 1 She was involved in charitable work in Cardross, especially in the field of temperance, and paid for the Geilston Hall, Cardross, in memory of her husband: 'this hall, with its two committee rooms, she gave, warmed and lighted, at her own expense, for the purposes of recreation and literary improvement, as well as for the use of the Volunteers' drill.' 2
