W. J. Yorke Scarlett

William James Yorke Scarlett (1872–1954) was born in Ireland, the eldest son of William James Scarlett (c. 1840–88) and his wife Henrietta. 1 His grandfather had bought the island of Gigha, and his father, a captain in the 5th Dragoon Guards, commissioned John Honeyman to build Achamore House there in 1882.

William James Yorke Scarlett was educated at Glenalmond and Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and married Mabel Annesley in 1893. Hunting appears to have been his main interest. By 1947 he was living at Fyfield House, Andover, Hampshire. 2
