10 April: At a meeting of Glasgow Corporation's Statute Labour Committee
(subcommittee for the widening of Rutherglen Road), John Keppie presents
alternative sketch plans for tenements at the S.E. corner of Rutherglen Road
and Thistle Street, and at the S.E. corner of Rutherglen Road and Hospital
Street. The subcommittee selects two plans and asks Keppie to prepare working
drawings and estimates. They specify that each dwelling should have an inside
W.C., that the ceilings of the ground-floor shops should be fireproof, and that
Robert Scott & Son should be appointed measurers. 1
24 October: Plans approved by Glasgow Dean of Guild Court. 2
November: Work starts on clearing old buildings from site. 3
